Ⅰ. School Overview
The School of Materials Science and Engineering has the rights to confer the bachelor degree, the master degree and the doctor degree and has set up the postdoctoral program of material science and engineering of the first-class discipline.
Now the school owns four undergraduate majors, including material forming and control engineering, metal material engineering, welding technology and engineering and functional materials. We focus in training the senior research and application specialized talents who are honest, sociable, professional, practical and innovative and have the international perspective and comprehensive quality.
The school comprises of the school affairs office, the teaching affairs office, the scientific research office, the student affairs office, the school reference room, the professional team of material forming and control engineering, the professional team of metal material engineering, the professional team of welding technology and engineering, the professional team of functional materials, the material analysis and test center and the material large-size equipment laboratory.
Now the School of Materials Science and Engineering owns 80 teaching and administrative persons, including 30 doctoral supervisors, 27 professors, 20 associate professors and 3 senior engineers. More than 98% of our full-time teachers are doctors, and most of our backbone members ever studied abroad. In addition, one of our full-time teachers is the first level candidates of the New Century National Hundred, Thousand and Ten Thousand Talent Project, three of them are Liaoning distinguished professor, two of them are Liaoning famous teachers, seven of them are Liaoning outstanding talents, seven of them are the 100-person level of Liaoning Hundred, Thousand and Ten Thousand Talent Project and twelve of them are Liaoning youth backbone teachers.
The school has built the Liaoning Key Laboratory for Magnesium Alloys and Forming Technology, Liaoning Key University Laboratory for Light Metal Materials and Engineering, and Liaoning Key University Laboratory of Advanced Welding Technology, and owns five provincial innovation teams, one provincial teaching team and one provincial experimental teaching demonstration center.
As one of the earliest schools of Shenyang University of Technology, the School of Materials Science and Engineering always has high academic reputation at home and abroad and has become the key talent training base in Liaoning Province. Its undergraduates are widely recognized by being practical and innovative and show themselves in all large-size equipment manufacturing enterprises, scientific research institutions, colleges and universities, and about 30% of them become postgraduates. The school also develops academic communication and cooperation with a number of universities in USA, Germany, Japan, Canada, Australia, Singapore, South Korea, etc.
Ⅱ. Discipline Overview
The disciplineof material science and engineering of Shenyang University of Technology comprises of three second-class disciplines, including material processing engineering, material science and material physics and chemistry.
The casting major of the discipline begun to recruit postgraduates since 1979, and got the right to confer the master’s degree in 1981. The major of metal materials and heat treatment and the major of welding respectively got the rights to confer the master’s degree in 1986 and 1990. The material processing engineering of the second-class discipline got the right to confer the doctor’s degree in 1998. The materials science and engineering of the first-class discipline got the right to confer the master’s degree in 2006. In 2007, thepostdoctoral program of materials science and engineering of the first-class discipline was approved and established. Thematerial science and engineering of the first-class discipline got the right to confer the doctor’s degree in 2011.
The material processing engineering of the second-class discipline was assessed as the key discipline in Liaoning in 1998. The material science and engineering of the first-class discipline was assessed as the key discipline in Liaoning in 2007. Now the discipline is the second-level construction discipline of the first-grade characteristic discipline construction project in Liaoning Province.
The discipline always researches in the way of combining with the development of the material science and engineering discipline. Mainly researching the new material development and new technologies of material preparation, processing and treatment, the discipline has developed the work for researching material solidification principle and near net shaping technology, welding technology equipment and automation, material surface modification technology, heat-resistant material and microstructure performance control, high-performance light alloy and application, advanced functional materials, metastable materials and characterization, new energy materials and devices, etc. A number of our research achievements have reached the leading levels in China or the world.
