¡¡¡¡Shenyang University of Technology (SUT) is located in Liaoning province, the industrial base of northeast China. The campus consists of two parts: the core campus, namely the original Shenyang Mechanical and Electrical Engineering College, adjacent to Shenyang Economy and Technology Developing Zone and the division Liaoyang campus, namely the previous Liaoyang Petrochemical College, adjacent to the petrochemical base. The predecessor, Shenyang Mechanical and Electrical Engineering College, was founded in 1949. It used to be affiliated with the State Ministry of Mechanical Industry and was taken over by Liaoning Provincial Government in 1998. Liaoyang Petrochemical College was set up in 1978 and affiliated with Petro China and has just finished the mergence into SUT in 2002.  
  SUT is an engineering oriented comprehensive university, with its subjects covering such six areas as engineering, science, economy, management, liberal arts and laws. And mechanical engineering, electronics, electric power, chemical engineering, architecture and information science and technology have constituted the bulk part of the engineering area. At present it has School of Mechanical Engineering,¡¡ School of Material Science and Engineering, School of Electrical Engineering, School of Information Science and Engineering, School of Economics, School of Administration, Science School, School of Literature  
  and Law, Petrochemical Engineering School, School of Architecture and Civil Engineering, School of Foreign Languages, Lifelong Education School, School of International Education, Xinghua School, Senior Vocational Technology School, Postgraduate School, School of Software, Physical Education Section, Engineering Practice Center and other supplementary sections. There are 35 undergraduate programs offered at SUT, 21  
  of which lead to master degree. It is authorized for the conferment of Scholar degree, master degree and doctoral degree. SUT¡¯s nationally accredited doctoral programs include Electrical Machinery & Electrical Apparatus and Material Processing Engineering. The A level subject of Electrical Engineering has its own post doctoral research center. Electrical Machinery and Electrical Apparatus has obtained the status of state level key subject. In addition, SUT has obtained the authorities for the recruitment of students for master degrees of engineering, the special testing for on-the-job students for master degrees,  
  for the on-the-job students, and the recruitment of international students as well as the students from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan.
SUT, with an enrollment of 22,000 from all over the nation, including 1500 postgraduates, 13,800 undergraduates, 1,900 three-year diploma students and 4,900 students of correspondence and evening courses, is one of the largest multi-disciplinary institution of higher education in Liaoning. There have been more than 60,000 students graduating from SUT within the 50 years since the founding of the university. Among its 2,500 working staff, 1,100 are professional teachers. SUT has a very strong team of teaching staff, 60% of which are holders of master degrees or doctoral degrees. The famous professor Tang Renyuan in the area of electrical machines was granted the academician of the State Academy of Engineering in 2001. In addition, SUT invites a group of famous experts, scholars, entrepreneurs and artists as part-time professors.
SUT¡¯s campus is composed of building space of 980,000 square meters. The university library covers an area of 16,000 square meters, with its storage of books reaching 990,000 and domestic and foreign journals totaling more than 3,000 kinds. What¡¯ more, the electronic searching and reading system has facilitated the students¡¯ study and research. In the past few years further investment to SUT has brought about great changes such as the replacement of the equipment in the labs, the use of the new multi-function teaching building, and the setting up of the school net managing system. Also the new residential buildings, covering an area of 120,000 square meters, have much improved more than 9300 students¡¯ accommodation conditions.
With a great attachment to teaching quality, SUT has undergone rapid reforms so as to develop the students to become qualified engineers and managers in the future with solid knowledge foundation and transferable skills. The principle of overall optimization and serialization of the curriculum system not only emphasizes lateral theoretical knowledge but also vertical courses study. Various compulsory courses, four year English study and practical skill training have developed the students more adaptable to the globalization of the world economy.
Under the policy of ¡°simultaneous development of teaching and technology¡±, scientific research has been given great concern by the university administration. Project technology centers of different levels and key labs have been set up. Within the past few years, SUT has undertaken a number of scientific research projects, including ¡°863¡± projects, ¡°973¡± projects and some natural science fund sponsored projects and have made achievements of world advanced level. SUT has also developed definite research directions in the areas of rare-earth permanent-magnet electrical machine application, special electrical machine and its control, electromagnet theory and application, magnetic suspension technology, CAD technology, new material and surface technology, special processing technology and equipment, high precision processing and measurement, computer science and technology, wind power technology, petrochemical engineering, macromolecular material and managing science and engineering. In the meantime, the development of science and technology industry has led to many transformation of the science and technology into business. Now SUT is playing a vital part in the transformation and development of the neighbor area. And it is making its new contribution to the high-tech development in Liaoning province as well as the construction of the state equipment industry base.
SUT¡¯s active international linkages through academic exchange, visiting lectures and abroad degree study have explored more potentials for its further development. Up to now, it has
 
  established collaborative relationships with more than 20 foreign institutions such as the U.S, Japan, Germany, the U.K, Holland, Finland, Russia, Australia and Korea Republic. The ongoing ¡°2+2¡± undergraduate programs with University of Luton in the U.K and Griffith University of Australia, and the joint MBA program have drawn wide public attention.
The recent development target for SUT is develop itself to be an engineering oriented multi-disciplinary university with a fair integrity of scale, structure, quality and achievement. And it shall also strive to become an institution with its own strength and features of teaching and science and technology development. The spirit of creation, innovation and down-to ¨Cearth hard work will propel SUT into a prosperous future.
