The School of Foreign Studies, Shenyang University of Technology was renamed in August, 2002. Its history can be traced back to the years of 1949 and 1985 when its predecessors (Foreign Language Teaching and Research Office and Department of Foreign Language Teaching) were established. Currently, we have 89 teaching staff, including 4 professors, 25 associate professors, and 57 lecturers. Nearly 50% of our people have the overseas visiting or studying experiences and some of them obtained their Master’s or Doctorate Degrees in the USA, UK, Australia and Japan.We offer two programs of bachelor degree, namely, English and Japanese. Other than that, we undertake English as Foreign Language courses for undergraduates and graduates majoring in different disciplines. Apart from the aforementioned, the service we provide also includeslanguage training, foreign affair consultancy and on-and-off-campus publicity of the University.
We have set up three degree programs in sequence since 1994, namely: 3-year Russian program for undergraduates in 1994 and 1995, English program for undergraduates since 1996, and Japanese program for undergraduates since 2010.
The School’s international cooperation work goes smoothly. We have launched various cooperative activities with overseas universities. For instance, we have established partnerships with universities in US and Japan. Since 2011, we have sent more than 40 students to Nagasaki University of Foreign Studies in Japan. Our success in international cooperation creates more career development opportunities for our students.
The School is well-equiped. We own first-class teaching facilities which include 23 web-based language training labs with 1000 seats, one simultaneous interpretation training room with 30 seats, one situational classroom with 30 seats, one studio and over 40 multimedia classrooms. We also have abundant language teaching materials and resources. We have a library which contains over 9000 books, 1000 CDs, VCDs and 40 academic journals subscribed yearly. Last but not least, our specialized foreign language database is also under construction.
The School’s motto is “better discipline construction, better research, and better education quality”. In accordance with this motto, we renew our education ideology timely to guide our discipline construction; we improve our teaching conditions to serve our talent training programs; and we cultivate our people’s research ability to build an excellent academic team. All these practices, to a great extent, help the School to achieve the goal of high quality education.
