The School of Materials Science and Engineering offers the Bachelor’s Degree Program, the Master’s Degree Program and the Doctoral Degree Program. It also has a postdoctoral program in material science and engineering which is a National First-class Discipline.
Our school has four undergraduate majors. They are namely: Material Forming and Control Engineering, Metal Material Engineering, Welding Technology and Engineering and Functional Materials. We focus on training innovative talents with global perspective and comprehensive qualities.
Our school comprises of nine sectors. They are namely: School Affairs Office, Teaching Affairs Office, Scientific Research Office, Student Affairs Office, Library, Department of Material Forming and Control Engineering, Department of Metal Material Engineering, Department of Welding Technology and Engineering, Department of Functional Materials, the Material Analysis and Test Center and the Material Large-size Equipment Laboratory.
There are 80 faculties in our school, including 38 doctoral supervisors, 38 professors, and 26 associate professors. More than 98% of our full-time teachers have doctorate degree, and most of them have the experience of studying abroad. Among them, there is 1 winner of the National Hundred, Thousand and Ten Thousand Talent Project, 4 Liaoning Distinguished Professors, 1 Liaoning Teaching Master, 7 winners of Liaoning Outstanding Talents, 10 winners of Outstanding Talents Program in Liaoning Province and 12 Youth Backbone Teachers in Liaoning Province.
In our school, there are 1 Liaoning Key Laboratory for Magnesium Alloys and Forming Technology, 1 Liaoning Key Laboratory for Light Metal Materials and Engineering, and 1 Liaoning Key Laboratory of Advanced Welding Technology. In addition, we also have 5 Provincial Innovation Teams, 1 Provincial-level Teaching Team and 1 Provincial-level Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center.
We have high academic reputation at home and abroad. Our school has become the key talent training base in Liaoning Province. Our graduates are widely recognized by their employers, including large-size equipment manufacturing enterprises, scientific research institutions, colleges and universities. About 30% of them become postgraduates. We also developed international cooperation with some universities in USA, Germany, Japan, Canada, Australia, Singapore, South Korea, etc.
There are three second-class disciplines in our school. They are namely: Material Processing Engineering, Material Science, and Material Physics and Chemistry. Material Processing Engineering was designated as the Provincial-level Key Discipline in Liaoning in 1998. Material Science and Engineering was designated as the Provincial-level Key Discipline in Liaoning in 2007, which has become the Second-level Construction Discipline under the First-level Characteristic Discipline Construction Project in Liaoning Province.
Our research in these disciplines combines material science with engineering. It mainly focuses on the new material development and new technologies of material preparation, processing and treatment. In particular, we have obtained great achievements in researching material solidification principle and near net shaping technology, welding technology equipment and automation, material surface modification technology, heat-resistant material and microstructure performance control, high-performance light alloy and application, advanced functional materials, metastable materials and characterization, new energy materials and devices, etc. Among them, some achievements have reached the leading levels in China and the leading positions in the world.
