3.1 Mechanical Design, Manufacturing and Automation

3.1.1 Overview

The Bachelor’s Degree Program in Mechanical Design, Manufacturing, and Automation is a highly comprehensive program primarily serving the national equipment manufacturing industry and the old industrial base of Liaoning Province. Guided by the philosophy of “big engineering, big education,” it aims to cultivate innovative talents with a broad perspective in mechanical engineering. Characterized by numerical control equipment and intelligent manufacturing, the program emphasizes the cultivation of students' innovative abilities and the enhancement of their comprehensive qualities. This major offer three specialized directions: mechanical manufacturing, mechatronics, and mechanical design. Graduates possess strong adaptability and a wide range of employment opportunities, capable of engaging in various aspects of mechanical engineering, including design and manufacturing, technology development, applied research, production organization and management, as well as marketing.

This program is characterized by “Numerical Control Equipment and Intelligent Manufacturing”. It has been designated as a National First-class Undergraduate Major Construction Site, a National Characteristic Major Construction Site, a pilot major under the Excellent Engineer Training Program formulated by the Ministry of Education, a Provincial First-class Demonstration Major in Liaoning, and a most employable major in Liaoning Province. It has passed the professional engineering certification in China for three consecutive times. Mechanical Engineering it relies on has been selected as a new round of “Double First-Class” construction discipline in Liaoning Province. It has master’s degree programs, doctorate degree programs, and a postdoctoral mobile station in the national-level first-class discipline.

3.1.2 Course Info

There are 11 core courses offered in this program. They are, namely: Engineering Graphics (I), Theoretical Mechanics, Mechanics of Materials, Principles of Mechanics/Machinery, Mechanical Design, Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing, Fundamentals of Mechanical Manufacturing Technology, Mechatronic Drives and Control Technology, Fundamentals of Control Engineering, Fluid Mechanics and Hydraulic Transmission, and CNC Machining Technology.

3.1.3 Practical Learning

Our program helps students’ transition from the classroom to the workplace. We offer students opportunities for real industry experience as part of their degree in such areas as Mechanical Manufacturing Engineering Training (I), Mechanical Manufacturing Engineering Training (II), Electrical Engineering Craft Training, Principles of Machinery Course Project, Mechanical Design Course Project, Fundamentals of Mechanical Manufacturing Course Project, Specialized Track Course Project, Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development, Comprehensive Mechanical Innovation Practice (I), Comprehensive Mechanical Innovation Practice (II), Production Internship, and Graduation Project.

3.2 Industrial Engineering

3.2.1 Overview

The Bachelor’s Degree Program in Industrial Engineering centers on the optimization of manufacturing systems, integrating multiple disciplines such as natural sciences, mathematics, and social sciences. In particular, it focuses on cultivating versatile engineering talents with capabilities in complex system analysis, operational efficiency improvement, and intelligent manufacturing implementation. This program represents an interdisciplinary field where engineering technology and management science are deeply integrated. Guided by the policy of “Made in China 2025” and the Northeast Area Revitalization Plan, it has established a distinctive training system combining “engineering + management”. The curriculum of this program emphasizes the innovative application of engineering technology theories and management methods, striving to enhance students’ practical abilities in areas such as quality engineering, cost control, and green manufacturing.

This program has been designated as a National First-class Undergraduate Program, a National-level Distinctive Undergraduate Program, and a Provincial-level Demonstration Undergraduate Program. It was listed as one of the top program in the professional review of Liaoning Province and was awarded with a Four-star rating from the China Alumni Association for ten consecutive years. Our graduates have demonstrated outstanding advantages in employment in such fields such as intelligent manufacturing and logistics optimization. In the global engineering capability review, our university is designated as one of the top universities by the China Mechanical Engineering Society.

3.2.2 Course Info

In particular, we offer students opportunities for real industry experience as part of their degree in such areas as Course Design in Basic Industrial Engineering, Course Design in Human Factors Engineering, Course Design in Production Planning and Control, Course Design in Quality Management and Reliability, Electrical Technology Practice, Mechanical Manufacturing Engineering Training, Course Design in Fundamentals of Mechanical Design, Production Practice and Professional Training, Course Design in Fundamentals of Mechanical Manufacturing Technology, Course Design in Facility Planning, Special Topics on Comprehensive Application of Industrial Engineering, and Graduation Design.

3.3 Industrial Design

3.3.1 Overview

The Bachelor’s Degree Program in Industrial Design is a comprehensive program that intersects multiple fields. Through innovative design thinking, it integrates knowledge from art, engineering technology, culture, user psychology, business marketing, and other disciplines to optimize the value of products, systems, services, and experiences, thereby addressing practical issues within these domains. This major combine school-enterprise collaboration and international cooperation to expand practical applications, cultivating students' knowledge system for creating innovative products, innovative services, intelligent systems, digital media, computer animation, and new human-computer interaction systems. It aims to enhance students' comprehensive innovation capabilities in design thinking, technological innovation, and business practice.

The program has been designated as a National First-class Undergraduate Program Construction Site and a pilot major under the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Program in Liaoning Province. This program has an advantage over other design majors in China. It has a “National Industrial Design Centers” in Industrial Design approved in 2013 and a “National Industrial Design Research Institute for Heavy Machinery” established by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.

3.3.2 Course Info

They are, namely: Fundamentals of Modeling (I), Fundamentals of Modeling (II), Product Development and Design Management, Vehicle Design, Industrial Equipment Service Design, Fundamentals of Mechanical Design, Fundamentals of Mechanical Manufacturing Technology, Ergonomics and Design Psychology, Fundamentals of Design (II), Creative Thinking and Design Expression, Product Interaction Design.

3.3.3 Practical Learning

This program helps students’ transition from the classroom to the workplace. We offer students opportunities for real industry experience as part of their degree in such areas as Production internship, professional cognition internship, course design for product development and design management, course design for industrial equipment service design, course design for product interaction design, course design for vehicle design, innovation and entrepreneurship project planning, innovation and entrepreneurship project design, innovation and entrepreneurship project implementation, innovation and entrepreneurship project operation, and graduation design.

3.4 Vehicle Engineering

3.4.1 Overview

The Bachelor’s Degree Program in Vehicle Engineering is an interdisciplinary field that integrates knowledge from various disciplines such as mechanics, energy, artificial intelligence, information technology, and control. It is a comprehensive and applied major that focuses on the theory, design, and manufacturing technology of land-based mobile machinery, including road vehicles, military vehicles, and engineering vehicles. The research focus of this program is related to industries such as new energy vehicles, automobiles and their components, and construction machinery. Through studying new energy technology, vehicle design and manufacturing, and control, students can enhance their professional theoretical and practical abilities through scientific and technological activities as well as innovation and entrepreneurship competitions. In doing so, they are equipped with relating knowledge and skills to engage in various aspects of vehicle engineering, including design and manufacturing, research and development, experimental testing, and production management.

This program is characterized by Automobile Manufacturing and Intelligent Control. It is based on the national development strategy for new energy vehicles and explores the deep integration of industry and education in new energy vehicle engineering education and talent cultivation mechanisms. It aims to achieve dual improvement in engineering capabilities and scientific literacy. This program has been designated as a Provincial First-class Undergraduate Program Construction Site in Liaoning. And a provincial-level modern automobile industry school was founded in 2024.

3.4.3 Practical Learning

We provide students opportunities for real industry experience as part of their degree in such areas as Mechanical manufacturing engineering training, electrical technology practice, production practice, mechanical principal course design, mechanical design course design, comprehensive design of automobile manufacturing technology, automobile design course design, comprehensive practical training in vehicle engineering, and graduation design.

3.5. Intelligent Manufacturing Engineering

3.5.1 Overview

The Bachelor’s Degree Program in Intelligent Manufacturing Engineering is an emerging field that has emerged in the context of serving the upgrading needs of the industrial machine tool industry and promoting the global manufacturing industry's transition towards intelligence and digitalization. This program integrates four major subject groups: mechanical engineering, control engineering, computer science, and management science. It focuses on enhancing competencies in the field of intelligent manufacturing engineering, cultivating advanced engineering and technical talents with strong practical abilities, innovative consciousness, international vision, and team spirit. Our graduates are engaged in related work such as product research and development, design and manufacturing, operation and maintenance management, and project planning in the field of intelligent manufacturing engineering, playing a significant role in the transformation and upgrading of the manufacturing industry and economic and social development.

This program embodies multidisciplinary integration. These disciplines include mechanical engineering, control science and engineering, computer science, and artificial intelligence. In particular, via the integration of industry and education in intelligent manufacturing, this program forms a talent approach to cultivate students’ capacities (e.g. engineering capability, innovation capability, and internationalization capability) and qualities (e.g. engineering quality, scientific quality, and humanistic quality).

3.5.2 Course Info

There are 12 core courses offered in this program. They are, namely: Engineering drawing, engineering mechanics, electrical and electronic technology, mechanical principles, mechanical design, fundamentals of mechanical manufacturing, fundamentals of control engineering, sensors and intelligent detection technology, industrial Internet technology and application, digital twin technology, fundamentals of intelligent manufacturing equipment, intelligent operation and maintenance and health management.

3.5.3 Practical Learning

This program helps students’ transition from the classroom to the workplace. We offer students opportunities for real industry experience as part of their degree in such areas as Mechanical manufacturing engineering training, mechanical principles course design, mechanical design course design, electrical craftsmanship internship, basic course design for intelligent manufacturing equipment, comprehensive practice of intelligent manufacturing innovation, course design for professional directions, production internship, and graduation design.
