The School of Architecture and Civil Engineering is located in the Central Campus of Shenyang University of Technology, where shimmering waters, lush greenery, and refined elegance create a picturesque environment, making it an ideal place for academic pursuits and personal cultivation. Established in May 1994 as the Department of Architectural Engineering, based on the Mechanics Teaching and Research Section, it evolved into the College of Architectural Engineering in July 2002 and was officially renamed the School of Architecture and Civil Engineering in December 2014.
Our school currently has 92 faculty members (including 4 foreign teachers), comprising 18 professors, 33 associate professors, 3 professor-level senior engineers, 3 senior engineers, 15 doctoral supervisors, and 52 master's supervisors. Among full-time teachers, 84% hold doctoral degrees. The faculty includes 1 national-level talent, 11 provincial-level talents, and 4 provincial-level distinguished teaching professors. Additionally, the school hosts 12 visiting professors from domestic and international institutions and 25 part-time instructors from industry.
We can grant bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees. The Civil Engineering program is a national first-class discipline. The Building Environment and Energy Application Engineering and Architecture programs are provincial first-class disciplines. The Intelligent Construction program is a new engineering discipline. The school has the right to confer academic master's degrees in civil engineering and professional master's degrees in the field of Civil and Hydraulic Engineering. In 2016, the school was approved to establish a doctoral program in Building Materials and Engineering as a secondary discipline, and has since enrolled nearly 50 doctoral students in this field. In 2024, the school further obtained the autonomous authorization to grant both master's and doctoral degrees in the interdisciplinary field of Intelligent Construction.
Our school comprises the Department of Civil Engineering, Department of Intelligent Construction, Department of Building Environment and Energy Application Engineering, Department of Architecture, Mechanics Teaching Division, Experimental Teaching Center, and Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center. The Experimental Center includes laboratories for mechanics laboratory, civil engineering laboratory, building environment laboratory, intelligent construction laboratory, and architecture laboratory. In 2013, it was approved as the Liaoning Provincial Key Laboratory of Building Material Mechanics, in 2017 as the Provincial Experimental Teaching Center for Mechanics and Civil Engineering, and in 2022 as the Liaoning Provincial Key Laboratory of Infrastructure Safety and Protection Engineering. In 2024, it was designated as a provincial-level popular science base for earthquake prevention and disaster reduction.
We have six research teams. They focus on the development and application of advanced civil engineering materials, geotechnical engineering and underground structure stability, theoretical analysis and design of engineering structures, structural disaster prevention and mitigation, intelligent construction and clean energy utilization, and road and bridge engineering. These teams have achieved notable research outcomes and established extensive collaborations with universities and research institutions in the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Australia, Japan, and other countries, gradually forming distinctive research strengths.
Over the past five years, we have hosted more than 50 government-funded research projects, including key international cooperation projects under the National Key R&D Program, National Natural Science Foundation projects, International Young Scientist Research Funds, National Foreign Expert Projects, Ministry of Education Returnee Research Funds, Tibet Autonomous Region Key R&D Program, and Liaoning Province Major Special Projects. It has established long-term partnerships with more than 30 large enterprises and institutions worldwide, earning 11 provincial or ministerial-level scientific awards (including second prizes or above). Faculty members have published 8 academic monographs, over 600 research papers, and obtained 151 domestic and international invention patents. The school offers 3 national first-class undergraduate courses and 31 provincial first-class undergraduate courses, has won 9 national and provincial teaching achievement awards, and published 15 textbooks, 3 of which were recognized as outstanding textbooks in Liaoning Province. Additionally, the school has launched 13 courses on national platforms such as the University MOOC Network, 5 courses on the international platform, and 4 international courses on national platforms such as Indonesia and Thailand in the form of MOOCs going overseas, becoming credit courses in these countries.
Our school emphasizes student development and holistic education. In recent years, many students have received national, provincial, and municipal awards and honors. The student Party branch was among the first to be recognized as a national model Party branch, and the Youth League Committee was awarded the "Shenyang Red Flag Youth League Committee." One counselor was named among the "Top 10 National College Counselors of the Year" and received the title of "Most Beautiful College Counselor" from the Central Propaganda Department and the Ministry of Education. The employment rate has consistently remained above 90%, and the school has been repeatedly honored as an outstanding employment unit by the university.
Today, our school will build on its historical legacy while looking toward the future. Upholding the university motto of “Self-improvement and Diligent Practice” and the spirit of "Hard Work and Perseverance," it is advancing toward its goals of "establishing quality, strengthening through talent, and thriving through distinctive features."
