Ⅰ. Civil Engineering

1. Program Duration: 4 Years

3. Program Introduction

The Bachelor’s Degree Program in Civil Engineering was established in 1995, offering three specialization directions: Building Engineering, Road and Bridge Engineering, and Underground Engineering. It has a Master's degree program in Civil Engineering at the first-level discipline, which awards academic Master's degrees. The program also holds the right to confer professional Master's degrees in the field of Civil and Hydraulic Engineering. Additionally, it has a doctoral program in the interdisciplinary field of Intelligent Construction Science and Engineering, and in the secondary discipline of Building Materials and Engineering, it has the authority to award a Doctor of Engineering degree. The program is home to several key facilities, including the National University Practical Education and Innovation Entrepreneurship Base, the Liaoning Province University Off-campus Practice Education Base, the Liaoning Province Mechanics and Civil Engineering Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center, the Liaoning Province Key Laboratory of Building Materials Mechanics, and the Liaoning Province Key Laboratory of Infrastructure Safety and Protection. In 2017, the program was recognized as a pilot major for Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education Reform in Liaoning Province. In 2019, it was named a first-class undergraduate program in Liaoning Province's general higher education institutions. In 2021, it was approved as a National-level First-Class Undergraduate Program Construction Project. In 2023, it became one of the first batch of virtual teaching and research room construction pilot projects for Civil Engineering in Liaoning Province's general higher education institutions. In 2024, it was rated as B+ by Soft Science and ranked 48th nationwide (within the top 30%).

The Department of Civil Engineering currently has 28 faculty and staff members, including 11 professors and 13 associate professors. Among them, 6 are doctoral supervisors and 25 are master’s supervisors. Approximately 89.3% of the faculty hold doctoral degrees. The department includes 1 national-level talent, 6 provincial-level talents, and 4 recipients of the Provincial Distinguished Teaching Award.

In the past five years, the department has secured over 30 vertical research projects, including those funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the Ministry of Education’s Fund for Returned Overseas Scholars, and Liaoning Province’s Science and Technology Planning Projects. It has received 7 provincial and ministerial-level science and technology awards, published 8 academic monographs and over 300 research papers, obtained more than 30 authorized invention patents, and published 15 textbooks as lead editors.

The department has made notable progress in program development. In 2014, it published one national-level planned textbook and two provincial-level planned textbooks. In 2018, it received one National Teaching Achievement Award and five Provincial Teaching Achievement Awards. In 2020, it was awarded two First Prizes for Teaching Achievement at the university level. That same year, the department launched one national-level online first-class course, two provincial-level online courses, one national-level virtual simulation “gold course,” and three provincial-level ones, as well as one provincial-level blended (online and offline) first-class course and four offline first-class courses. In 2024, it published another national-level planned textbook, launched a MOOC course internationally, and was approved for a provincial-level model ideological and political course and teaching team.

4. Training Objectives

This program aims to cultivate students who are well-rounded in moral, intellectual, physical, aesthetic, and labor development. Graduates will master the fundamental theories, specialized knowledge, and skills of Civil Engineering, while also possessing strong professional ethics, cultural literacy, good physical health, and a certain level of international perspective. They will receive fundamental training as civil engineers, with the ability to solve complex engineering problems in areas such as structural design, construction techniques, and technological research and development. The program also emphasizes innovation and entrepreneurship, preparing students to be highly qualified, application-oriented professionals with excellent comprehensive qualities. Graduates will be able to meet the demands of societal development and work in the fields of construction, roads, bridges, tunnels, underground spaces, and other civil engineering sectors, engaging in design, management, and R&D activities.

5. Course Info

There are 11 core courses offered in this program. They are Theoretical Mechanics, Mechanics of Materials, Structural Mechanics, Soil Mechanics, Hydraulics, Civil Engineering Materials, Surveying in Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering Drawing and CAD, Foundation Engineering, Fundamentals of Concrete Structures, and Civil Engineering Construction.

Ⅱ. Intelligent Construction

1. Program Duration: 4 Years

2. Degree Conferred: Bachelor of Engineering

3. Program Introduction

The Bachelor’ Degree Program in Intelligent Construction was established in 2022 as part of the “New Engineering” disciplines initiated by the Ministry of Education. In 2023, it was approved as the Liaoning Provincial Modern Industrial College for Intelligent Construction. The Department of Intelligent Construction currently has 11 faculty members, including 3 professors and 4 associate professors. Among them, 3 are Ph.D. supervisors and 7 are Master’s supervisors. All faculty members hold doctoral degrees. The department includes 2 recipients of the Liaoning Provincial “Hundred-Thousand-Talent Project” and 1 Shenyang Leading Talent.

Over the past five years, the department has been approved for more than 30 research projects, including those funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the Ministry of Education’s Returned Overseas Scholars Fund, and the Liaoning Provincial Science and Technology Program, as well as projects commissioned by enterprises and institutions. It has received 7 provincial and ministerial-level science and technology awards, published over 100 academic papers, obtained more than 20 authorized invention patents, published 4 academic monographs and 3 textbooks, and compiled 2 association and local standards. Additionally, 3 provincial-level first-class courses have been approved.

4. Training Objectives

This program is guided by the philosophy of “focusing on the frontier, interdisciplinary innovation, technology-driven development, and moral integrity.” It is designed to meet the formalization and intelligent development needs of the construction industry, as well as the national demand for intelligent construction professionals. The program aims to cultivate well-rounded individuals with moral, intellectual, physical, aesthetic, and labor education. Graduates will master the fundamental theories and research methods of intelligent construction, and integrate core technologies from disciplines such as information technology, control science, and engineering management. They will be capable of undertaking tasks related to the entire life cycle of construction, including digital design, industrialized construction, automated construction, and intelligent operation and maintenance. These professionals will possess innovative thinking, teamwork skills, global perspectives, and lifelong learning capabilities, making them innovative and application-oriented talents.

Engineering Mechanics, Structural Mechanics, Civil Engineering Drawing and BIM, Intelligent Construction Methods in Civil Engineering, Intelligent Management in Construction, Fundamentals of Concrete Structures, Fundamentals of Steel Structures, Soil Mechanics and Foundation Engineering, Engineering Big Data Analysis and Application, Sensors and the Internet of Things.

Ⅲ. Architecture

1. Program Duration: 5 Years

2. Degree Conferred: Bachelor of Engineering

3. Program Introduction

The Bachelor’s Degree Program in Architecture was established in 2002 and is authorized to confer master’s degrees in Design. The program is supported by a range of high-level educational resources, including a National Innovation and Entrepreneurship Base for Practical Education in Colleges and Universities, a Liaoning Provincial Off-Campus Practice Education Base for University Students, and a National-Level Virtual Simulation Laboratory, providing students with broad opportunities for both academic learning and practical training. In 2016, it was recognized as a pilot program for the transformation of applied disciplines in Liaoning Province, and in 2020, it was selected as a Model Program for First-Class Undergraduate Education in Liaoning Province.

The program currently has 14 full-time faculty members, including 8 associate professors and 10 master’s supervisors. Faculty members holding doctoral degrees account for 43% of the team. It includes 3 distinguished talents recognized by the Shenyang Municipal Government, 3 university-level young academic backbone teachers, and 4 university-level outstanding teachers. Emphasizing international collaboration and industry-education integration, the program also engages 4 part-time foreign teachers, 8 part-time faculty members from industry, and 1 external industry expert.

In the past five years, the program has secured 3 vertical research projects, including the National Natural Science Foundation of China and the Liaoning Provincial Science and Technology Plan; received 1 provincial and ministerial-level science and technology award; published 1 academic monograph and over 10 research papers; obtained 2 invention patents; and led the compilation of 2 textbooks.

Significant progress has been made in program development. From 2018 to 2022, the program received 3 provincial-level Teaching Achievement Awards and 7 university-level awards. It also earned one Third Prize in the National College Teachers’ Teaching Innovation Competition and one First Prize at the provincial level. Between 2019 and 2022, it was awarded 2 provincial-level online first-class courses, 3 blended (online and offline) first-class courses, and 1 first-class course in social practice. Since 2023, two MOOCs have been launched internationally.

4. Training Objectives

Rooted in the region of Liaoning, this program aims to cultivate well-rounded professionals with moral, intellectual, physical, aesthetic, and labor education. Students will master the fundamental theories, professional knowledge, and skills of architecture. They will be resilient, socially responsible, and equipped with concepts of sustainable development and cultural heritage. Graduates will possess the ability to creatively solve complex engineering problems in architectural design and related areas. With an innovative and entrepreneurial spirit and strong comprehensive qualities, they will be capable of meeting societal development needs and engaging in architectural design, planning, and consulting for urban and rural development. The program focuses on developing innovative and application-oriented high-level professionals.

They are Architectural Design (I)–(IV), Principles of Public Building Design, Principles of Residential Building Design, History of Chinese Architecture, History of Foreign Architecture, Building Materials and Construction (I), Building Physics (I), Architectural Structures, Principles of Urban and Rural Planning, Architectural Laws and Regulations.

Ⅳ. Building Environment and Energy Application Engineering

1. Program Duration: 4 Years

2. Degree Conferred: Bachelor of Engineering

3. Program Introduction

The Bachelor’s Degree Program in Building Environment and Energy Application Engineering was established in 2002 and holds the authority to award both bachelor’s and master’s degrees. It is supported by a series of high-level educational and research resources, including a National Innovation and Entrepreneurship Base for Practical Education in Universities, a National-level Virtual Simulation Laboratory, a Liaoning Provincial Off-campus Practice Education Base for University Students, the Liaoning Provincial Key Laboratory of Building Materials Mechanics, the Liaoning Provincial Demonstration Center for Experimental Teaching in Mechanics and Civil Engineering, the Liaoning Provincial Modern Industrial College for Intelligent Energy Operation and Maintenance, and multiple university-enterprise and intercollegiate joint training bases. In 2021, the program was approved as a Liaoning Provincial First-class Undergraduate Program, and in 2022, it received a three-star rating in the provincial undergraduate evaluation of ordinary higher education institutions.

This program currently has 13 full-time faculty members, including 1 professor, 4 associate professors, and 1 senior engineer. Eight faculty members hold doctoral degrees, with 1 serving as a doctoral supervisor and 7 as master's supervisors. Among the faculty, 2 have been selected for the “Thousand-Talent Tier” and 1 for the “Ten-Thousand-Talent Tier” of Liaoning Province’s Hundred-Thousand-Ten Thousand Talent Project. In addition, 1 faculty member has been recognized as an Excellent Science and Technology Worker of Liaoning Province, 1 as an Innovative Talent of Higher Education in Liaoning, 1 as a Young and Middle-aged Scientific Innovator in Shenyang, and 1 as a Leading Talent of Shenyang. Notably, 80% of the faculty have engineering backgrounds.

The program has been approved for six provincial-level first-class undergraduate courses, two courses on international online platforms, and one demonstration course by the Ministry of Education. Faculty members have compiled two textbooks and led or participated in six National Natural Science Foundation projects, over 30 national and provincial-level scientific research projects, and more than 60 university-industry collaboration projects. The program has received seven provincial and ministerial-level Science and Technology Progress Awards. It has also led or participated in five provincial teaching reform projects and five Ministry of Education–Industry-University Collaborative Education Projects. In 2024, the program was approved to establish the Liaoning Province Modern Industrial College for Smart Energy Operations and Maintenance.

4. Training Objectives

This program aims to cultivate well-rounded socialist builders and reliable successors based in Liaoning and oriented towards the whole country, with moral, intellectual, physical, aesthetic, and labor development. Graduates will possess strong innovative capabilities and engineering practice skills. They will be qualified to engage in innovative and applied work in areas such as HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning), energy power, and environmental control, including project design, construction organization, technology development, scientific research, and operation and maintenance management.
